Do you support gay marriage?

Same-sex marriage and gay marriage are terms for a legally or socially recognized marriage between two people of the same sex.
While state-sanctioned same-sex marriage is a relatively new phenomenon in the modern world, same-sex unions have been documented throughout human history. The first country to legalize same-sex marriage was the Netherlands, in 2001. Since then, six other countries have followed suit. Proponents of same-sex marriage regard it as a human right to have the benefits of marriage regardless of sexual orientation. Those who oppose same-sex marriage often base their opposition on tradition, religious grounds, parenting concerns, or concerns about unintended consequences of same-sex marriage. Civil unions between same-sex couples are recognized in sixteen countries.
