Gay Day Disney 2003

The gayest place on earth.
Sunday, June 1, 2003

I am embarking on my annual trip to Orlando for Gay Day Disney week. This year, making the trip will be my friends Lewis G. and my partner in crime, Gary G. Also tagging along this year will be my sister, Lan, her husband, John, their 16-year-old daughter, Jessica and their 5-year-old son, Baby John. This is Baby John 2nd trip to Disney World; he first went there with me when he was barely 2 years old. And as for my 16-year-old niece, this is her 5th time to Disney World. For my family, it does not matter if it's €œGay Day€ or whatever day, it's just a vacation trip. As for the red wig devil, Lewis G., this is his first trip to Orlando and South Florida.

By the time the newsletter comes out, the trip will be over, so I have made this article available on my newwww.Gaytraveling.us web site. This article appears in its entirety on the newsletter, but the web site will provide a diary of our trip. I hope the article and the diary will encourage more people to travel.

Gary G. and I ordered and received our official Gay Day 2003 red T-shirts. And just in time, we have lost about 15 pounds in the last 7 weeks in anticipating for this trip. Bless Dr. Atkins' heart, because with out his diet program, I would not wear anything red, let alone a T-shirt. The official 2003 Gay Day T-shirt is not for the closeted one. If you have any hint of homophobia in you or a fear of coming out, this T-shirt will not only €œout€ you, it will do it loud and clear. The front of this FOL (Fruit of the Loom) red T-shirt is a symbol of Mickey Mouse, overlapping the symbol are the words, gayday, Orlando, 2003 and the back hasgayday.com in big yellow words. The Abercrombie boys can kiss my?

We start the trip on June 4th and will be driving from Houston to New Orleans and stay there overnight at the W. New Orleans on Poydras St., 2 blocks from the French Quarter. On the 5th, we will drive 11 hours to our destinations. My sister and her family will drive directly to Orlando and check in at the Disney Allstar Music Resort. Gary G., Lewis G., and I will drive to Palm Harbor (near Tampa) instead and spend the night at his sister's house. We will check into the Disney Allstar Music Resort on Friday. This save us a whopping $84 in hotel stay because we would have arrived way too late on Thursday to do anything anyway.

After spending a total of 3 nights in Orlando, we then head down to Miami, Southbeach area, for a two nights stay. My sister and her family will stay in Orlando an extra day and then head back home on Tuesday. Gary, Lewis and I are staying at the Holiday Inn Southbeach on Collins Dr., 7 blocks from Ocean Drive. I got this 3 star hotel on the beach through priceline.com for only $45/night, a saving of $40/per night.

A friend of mine has a condo in Miami beach, two miles away from our hotel, and has invited us to his house for a Jewish/Caribbean dinner on Monday. The house has a pool on the roof. He has conveniently shipped his two children to Puerto Rico for summer camp the weekend before. This is where I will open my bottle of Dom P. to celebrate.

We head back to Palm Harbor on Wednesday and stay there one night and leave around 5 in the morning on Thursday the 12th and drive back to New Orleans. Since, Lewis G.'s birthday is on the 13th, we decided that we celebrate his birthday in New Orleans and stay there for a total of 3 nights at the Wyndham Canal Hotel and come back on Sunday, the 15th. This means that we will miss the Filipino's party at Chris Z. house.

This time, I will try my best to post pictures of our trip. If you read this before June 7, there is still time for you to make arrangement to travel to Orlando for Gay Day celebration.
